Work for clients
I design, art direct, write, and direct moving image. I assemble and direct creative teams, selecting appropriate skill-sets from a network of collaborators. I undertake this process directly for clients as well as for creative agencies, and whether working alone or with a team I’m adept at carrying a project through from concept to completion.
I also work at earlier stages in the creative process, analysing fundamental design and communication challenges and setting creative projects in motion. This can mean positioning a brand, pitching for new business, and sometimes it simply means contributing some good ideas before moving on. These projects are sometimes more difficult to show than the ones I’ve fully executed, though I’ve made my attempts to display them clearly here on this site.
Writing / Film making / Art
After successfully copywriting more and more for clients – strap lines, name-generation, literature – I’ve expanded my writing activities to encompass books, magazines, and recently, fiction. I’ve also made several experimental film and art projects that have been screened in various places such as the ICA in London, the New York Dance Film Festival, Astigmatic in Warsaw, and published in No Brief: Graphic Designers’ Personal Projects, Mined, and Tank.
Background
I trained in Graphic Design at Central St. Martins, and now have 15 years experience in the communications industry. I've almost always remained freelance / independent, with a few long stints at companies such as Michaelides & Bednash, where I led the creative department for two years, and Kemistry, where I spent a year as Creative Director. Moving around has enabled me to experience a wide range of clients in different sectors, collaborating with different people in a rich mix of creative and business frameworks.
Website
This site features selected projects from a 13-year span, and are organised chronologically, top to tail, within each section.
